Mexico celebrated Independence day last week (what, they celebrate Cinco de Mayo in September?), so we took advantage of the extra vacation day to make a trip to Guanajuato, Mexico, about four and a half hours north of Mexico City by bus.

Back in May of 2009, Gretchen and I were flying back to Mexico City from the U.S., when I ran across a newspaper article on the plane about an upcoming wine and cheese festival in Mexico. It was being held the following weeking in Tequisquiapan, Mexico, a town about an hour and a half's bus ride north of Mexico City that was noted for their vineries and, I suppose, cheese-making places.

Hard to believe it has been almost a year and a half since Gretchen and I visited Buenos Aires. We toured the city and surrounding countryside near the tail-end of February, 2008, which coincided with the last weeks of summer in this country (way) south of the equator.
